My dogs absolutely love the homemade treats I make for them. While they enjoy all kinds of snacks, I prefer to make their treats myself to ensure that the ingredients are clean and wholesome, and to limit any additives.
This recipe is delicious and simple to make. If you are an avid baker like yours truly, you probably already have the ingredients in the pantry. And there's no need to worry; this recipe doesn't require yeast. So, you don't have to get up extra early in the morning to make them or worry about an upset stomach or worse from the yeast. These treats can be stored for up to five days, so you can make a batch and have them ready for your furry friends.
Homemade Cinnamon Roll Treats
Ingredients:
Cinnamon Roll Treats:
2 cups AP flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup water or milk
1/4 cup canola oil
1 large egg
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp cinnamon
Frosting (optional):
1/4 cup cream cheese
1-2 tbsp milk or water
Instructions:
-Preheat the oven to 350°F.
-In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. In a smaller bowl, stir together water, oil, and egg. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until you have a soft dough.
-On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangle that measures roughly 8×14 inches.
-Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon.
-Starting at the long edge, roll the dough, and pinch the edge to seal.
-Using a serrated knife, cut half an inch thick slices and place them cut side down on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper.
-Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes.
-Wait until they have completely cooled before adding the cream cheese frosting.
Notes:
This recipe yields about a dozen biscuits, and I recommend storing them in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator. You can also add a couple tablespoons of pumpkin puree for a harvest version. In case you don't have cream cheese, a dollop of sour cream can serve as frosting.
Although it might be tempting to add nutmeg for its warm spice, avoid doing so as nutmeg is toxic to dogs, especially in large quantities!
Thank you for stopping by, and Happy Baking!
