Blogger's Block? Blog Post Ideas for Writers

Sometimes writing for this blog comes easy to me, other times not so much. Even creative people can get stuck sometimes when they are trying to come up with ideas for a blog post. Since I can’t imagine that I am the only writer with this occasional case of blogger's block, I thought I would put a list of potential subjects together to inspire other writers. These are, in part, based on some of my blog posts and others that I have enjoyed reading on the internet. While this list is not all inclusive, I hope that one of the subjects is just what you need to break your blogger’s block:

- Who has influenced your writing? You could turn this into a collection of quotes from a particular author. You could also contact the author, and ask for an interview.

- What is happening in the publishing industry that interests you?

- Do you have any ideas for promoting books?

- Tell your readers about some of the places you have been. Have you been somewhere interesting recently? Don't forget to include some photos. I still have to work on one of those posts myself.  =)

- How do you create the characters in your book? Perhaps you could write about where your ideas come from. Are your characters based on people you have met?

- Tell your readers about when you were little.

- Write a post about your five favourite books.

- Write a post about books you are currently reading or are planning to read in the near future.

- Where did you get the idea for the book you are currently working on? Tell your readers how you turned your idea into a book.

- Your life as a writer. Write about what it is like to be a writer with a busy schedule.

- What is the best writing advice you have ever received? Tell others why you think it is so valuable.

- You could ask other writers to write a guest blog post for you or ask them if you can write for them.

- On the big or small screen. Have you seen any good, or bad, movies or TV shows lately? This could be great for a post on why you think the story worked or why it did not.

- Start a new blog segment  "Book Review of the Week". Write a book review on a particular day of every week, and add a little-known fact about the author.

- Post interesting Infographics about writing. These can usually be posted on your blog as long as you link it back to the source. Consider adding a brief summary why you find it interesting!

- Create a list of thirty writing prompts and challenge your followers to do one every day for a month.

- Tell your readers about your writing routine. Where you like to write? Do you stick to a daily word count? Do you like to drink coffee or tea while you write? Does your pet distract you? Do you like to procrastinate?

- Are you a Plotter or Pantster? Write about your writing methods. Do you outline? Do you use any special tools?

- Has something unusual or noteworthy happened in your life lately? Did you bump into an old friend you have not seen in ages? Are you renovating your house? Write about the experience.

- How do you do your research for a book? Do you have any tips for other writers?

- Do you have any advice for your fellow writers? You can break this into separate blog posts about plotting, characterization, dialogue, editing… Write about what you have learned from your own publishing experiences.

- Use holidays and special occasions as inspiration for a blog post. Write one about your favourite childhood Christmas books. Or write about mothers in literature on Mother’s Day and fictional dads on Father’s Day.

- Have you recently attended a writing conference or class? Do you belong to a book club or a critique group? Tell your readers about your experiences!

- Things you do to stay inspired. Perhaps you enjoy painting, nature, exercise, photography?! Tell your readers how these activities help you become a better writer.

- Create an online writing bucket list. Is there anything you would still like to achieve as an author? You could also add your thoughts and ideas on how you plan to achieve them.

I hope this short list has given you some ideas for future blog posts. Feel free to add yours in the comment section and Happy Writing!
